Dash For Diabetes Recap

RICHARDSON, TX, Jul. 28, 2011- Delta Epsilon Psi National Fraternity, Inc. Beta Chapter is a service-based organization at The University of Texas at Dallas. Throughout the years the gentlemen of DEPsi have served their respective communities across the nation. In the Dallas area alone they specifically accumulated over 3,000 service hours. DEPsi is especially committed to its philanthropy, Type I Diabetes Research. In addition, they support and fund their official corporate partner, the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF).

On April 9, 2011, the Brothers of DEPsi’s Beta Chapter held a 5k charity run, the Dash for Diabetes. The event raised awareness of Type 1 Diabetes as well as funds for JDRF. With over 250 people in attendance, the Dash for Diabetes brought people together from all over the community, including participants from Wichita Falls, Texas. The attendees included the former Mayor of Richardson County, Gary Slagel, City Council Member Amir Omar, Dean of Students Dr. Gene Fitch, as well JDRF Dallas Board Member Ken Conway and various other community and campus leaders.

The Dash for Diabetes raised $1,500 and has been adopted by Delta Epsilon Psi as a National signature service event. The event was very successful. The official check was presented to the JDRF Dallas Chapter on July 27th, 2011. The future of Dash for Diabetes is very promising with hopes of hosting it at DEPsi’s chapters in New Jersey and Florida.
